Don Bosco Boys home is an Institution belonging to the Salesians of Don Bosco. It was founded in the year 1996 originally to accommodate wheel barrow pushers (boys who carry the load of market women and travellers in the streets of Sunyani). Initially these boys were assisted in accommodation, food and medicals. As the years went by, some of the boys where put in school and others were put in apprenticeship to be qualified in auto mechanic.
Some years later, the orientation was changed and attention was re-directed to children of school-going-age. With some economic challenges, these where provided with the following: Basic education that is paying their school fees and buying their school materials, food, medicals, clothing, etc.
The home at the moment has seen the need of re-direction its orientation and mission outside Sunyani since cases of street children is on increase day after day. We have come to discover that there are more street children on the streets of Kumasi, Berekum and Techiman. The centre is aware that Kumasi is second in terms of the number of street children in Ghana. Aware of this fact the Don Bosco Boys Home is embarking on a restructuring of the Home in Odumase, to facilitate reaching out to many street children and children at risk as far it can.
